Objective: To promote the practice of volleyball in Physical Education classes in schoolchildren. The present research is focused on volleyball as a motivational strategy to strengthen sports practice in basic secondary school students, which will allow the children of the seventh basic year of the Olmedo Fiscal Educational Unit to practice this sport, which is not practiced as much as other sports disciplines within the educational context.
Methods: This research was carried out through the application of the practical design of exploratory-descriptive methodology with a mixed approach that integrates the use of qualitative and quantitative methods. The interpretative method was applied since it helped to order, describe, classify and give value to the statistical data that were collected through the survey answered by 45 students of the educational institution.
Results: The results indicated that introducing volleyball as a motivational strategy helped students acquire knowledge of this sport.
Conclusions: It was concluded that volleyball is an appropriate motivational strategy for strengthening sports practice among school students.
