HIIT training to improve maximal VO2 in sergeants of the national police of Ecuador

Objectives: To evaluate different health-related variables in the Ecuadorian National Police and to test the effectiveness of an eight-week HIIT training program in improving maximum oxygen consumption in sergeants of the Ecuadorian National Police.
Methods: A sample of 29 second sergeants from the Ceibos District of the Ecuadorian National Police was analyzed. The sample was assessed with a health questionnaire using the Likert scale and underwent the HIIT training program, assessing their maximum oxygen consumption.
Findings: The results showed the health profile of the Ecuadorian National Police in relation to age, height, weight, pathologies, physical activity habits, and physical fitness.
Conclusions: The effectiveness of the HIIT training program was confirmed in improving the participants' maximum oxygen consumption, thus allowing them to maintain adequate physical fitness to perform their police duties to the best of their ability.
